A-LEVELS: Notable successes for Lutterworth's students at college and studio school

The Bitteswell Road college said its students and staff were celebrating today (Thursday) after setting a new record for the second consecutive year.

Its Year 12 and Year 13 students received their AS and A-level results with many notable successes.

In Year 13, students faced the anxious wait to see whether or not they had gained the grades needed to secure university places and 98 per cent passed their A-levels.

And the college’s partner school, the Sir Frank Whittle Studio School (see full report, below) was also celebrating after its Year 13 pupils achieved ‘truly phenomenal results’.

In Year 12, pupils achieved the school’s best AS results in the history of the school by some margin, doubling the number of A grades compared to last year and 21 per cent of all results were A grades. Results also increased significantly at A-B, with 42 per cent getting these marks - an “impressive improvement from 2015”, the school said.

There were many success stories for A-level students at the college, with particularly impressive results from straight-A student Isabel Eastwood (A*AAA) who will now be studying biochemistry at York, Daniel Edwards (A*A*AB) who is off to study maths at Bath and Jazzmyn Lyons (AAAC) who will read maths at Nottingham Trent.

Gaining three A-levels at A* and A were:

*Harry Garner (AAA) who will study fine art at Liverpool Hope.

*Rhianna Hill (AAA) who will study bioveterinary science at Liverpool.

*Charlotte Hull (A*A*A) who will study psychology at Nottingham.

*Luke Johnson (A*AA) who will study maths at York.

*Bethany King (A*AA) who will study psychology at Exeter.

*Jaz Latham (A*AA) who will study law at King’s College London.

*Honali Mistry (AAA) who will study maths at Loughborough.

*Lilika Peutherer (A*A*A) who will study law at East Anglia.

*Esther Thomas (AAA) who will study medicine at Southampton.

*Billy Walkinshaw (AAA) who will study civil engineering at Bristol.

The college’s headteacher Ben Solly said: “We are delighted with these results. Our students have worked tremendously hard and have been very well-supported by our teachers and pastoral staff.

“I wish our Year 13 students the very best of luck with their progression to university.

“In particular, I am very pleased with our Year 12 results which show our sixth-form is going from strength to strength and has a very bright future.”

Sir Frank Whittle Studio School

The studio school, which opened in 2014 in a new building adjacent to Lutterworth College and which specialises in engineering and business, said today (Thursday) that its students achieved ‘truly phenomenal results’.

In what was its first year of results, students exceeded their target grades and excelled, it said. There was a 100 per cent pass rate for its engineering and business courses and 57 per cent achieved the top marks of distinction* or distinction – the equivalent of A-level A* and A grades.

Half of its engineering students earned a distinction* or distinction grade and 40 per cent of its business students gained a distinction*.

Headteacher Paul Hostead said: “The results we have achieved truly are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff and students. This is our first set of results and is an excellent example of how the studio school model, which combines academic study and work, really does benefit young people and push them to achieve the very best.

“To have 57 per cent of students achieve distinction* or distinction grades is absolutely fantastic.

“Students joined us in September 2014 from a number of other schools and, based on their prior attainment, none of the students were predicted above a merit grade.

“The results show that when students are given the opportunity to excel and work with our fantastic industrial partners there really is no barrier they can’t overcome.”

It said that 100 per cent of students have secured their first post-18 choice including going to university, securing an apprenticeship or employment.

Of particular note, the school highlighted the achievements of:

*Amy Betteridge (D*D*D*) who will now be going to Madagascar to teach and work in conservation.

*Perry Butterfield (D*D*D) who will work as a junior manager at Turbine Controls Ltd in Oadby, Leicester, before going on to study engineering in Germany next year.

*George Finch (DDD) who will study engineering at Coventry University.

*Joshua Lovatt (D*D*D*) who is going into employment.

*Daniel Mellar (D*D*D) who is going into employment.

*Kryster Spurrier (D*D*D*) who will study events management at Bournmouth University.

*Taijan Patel (D*D*D*) who is becoming a construction trainee at Nottingham firm Clegg Construction while studying construction management at Nottingham Trent University.
