This year’s Carnival Queen has been unveiled as 17-year-old Amber Morris.

The Carnival Queen will have all eyes on her in this year’s carnival as the floats parade through town, with Amber set to wear a special crown.

Carnival committee chairman John Bush said he was delighted to announce Amber as carnival queen, at a ceremony on Tuesday night.

He added: “We had three applicants for the role and because they were all so good we decided to change the rules and announce a Carnival Queen with two assistants, rather than one.

“We couldn’t separate the three.

“They all had great personalities, looked good, and were all very confident.”

Amber will be supported by her two assistants 14-year-old Sophie Miles and 15-year-old Ellis Anderson, who were handed the roles after being voted on by a panel of judges.

The Queen of the Carnival will also make special appearances at town events throughout the year.

As well as being at the head of carnival, the role also involves being a VIP at various functions during the year, including taking part as a guest of honour at the annual Late Night Shopping festival in Harborough.

The naming of the Carnival Queen took place at a special ceremony at the Angel Hotel in Harborough on Tuesday night.

The carnival, which takes place every year on the second Saturday in June, will be held on June 14 this year.

Mr Bush added that plans are well underway to make the event a great day out.
