Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Shawell.

The 75-year-old victim was travelling in a white Ford Connect van through Shawell towards Swinford at about 11.30am on Saturday, March 22, when he was forced to the side of the road by an oncoming red car, possibly an old Peugeot 306.

The driver of the red car smashed the windscreen and front passenger window of the victim’s van before making off with cash. The victim suffered minor injuries to his face and eye.

DC Sean Lynch, the investigating officer, said: “This has left the victim incredibly shaken.

“We are appealing for witnesses who may have been in Shawell and seen the offending car drive off.”
