Police found a cannabis factory with plants worth £1.2milion during a raid in the Harborough district this morning.

Officers executed a warrant at a premises in Lutterworth and recovered a large quantity of cannabis.

The constabulary thinks it could be the largest ever haul of cannabis found by police in Leicestershire’s history.

Police entered the address, on an industrial estate off Gilmorton Road, and discovered around 3,000 cannabis plants across several rooms.

The value of the plants is estimated at more than £1.2 million and could cultivate in the region of £4m of cannabis a year, said police.

The warrant was executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Three men, aged 24, 33 and 46, have all been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

Sgt Ed Des-Chanelle said: “This is potentially one of the largest finds of cannabis in Leicestershire.

“Leicestershire police along with other agencies will continue to crack down on the misuse of drugs and rid the streets of these harmful substances.

“Today’s successful result has stopped an estimated £4m of cannabis hitting the streets of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and has stopped £4m lining the pockets of organised criminals.”
