Firefighter praised for his 30 years’ service

A firefighter who has served the Harborough community for 30 years has been given a long service award.

Harborough man Stephen Read, who is the town’s fire station crew manager, said: “When I joined back in the early dark days we were on short time where we worked and the country was in a recession.

“The initial concept was I joined for extra money, but once I joined I realised what a fantastic job it was.”

One of the biggest incidents he remembers dealing with during his tenure was the collapse of the upstairs floor of the Andrew Granger building several years ago.
