The 4,000th reusable shopping bag made by a Harborough group is on its way to the European Parliament in Brussels.
Harborough HITBags, which has been making the reusable ‘Morsbags’ out of recycled materials for three-and-a-half years, presented Lib Dem councillor Phil Knowles with the special Union Flag bag recently.
Cllr Knowles said he would send the bag to MEP Bill Newton Dunn in the hope he will pose with it outside the European Parliament for a photo to add to a gallery being put together by HITBags of places where the bags have been used.
Cllr Knowles said: “The group brings people together in the production of the bags, encourages involvement in the donation of fabrics and ultimately makes a positive contribution to the environment as the bag is reused time after time.”
The group meets at the Roman Way Community Centre on the third Monday of each month from 6.30-8.30pm.

The group’s next event will be the Lions Christmas Fair at the Methodist Church, in Northampton Road, on Saturday November 16, from 2-4pm.
