Unemployment has dropped in Harborough according to new figures by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The number of people claiming jobseekers’ allowance across MP Sir Edward Garnier’s Harborough, Oadby and Wigston parliamentary constituency in September was 1,099 - 258 lower than the same month the previous year and 141 down on August’s figures.
The latest figure represents 2.2 per cent of people in the area aged 16 to 64.
Sir Edward said: “It is good to see that people in Harborough are getting back on their feet. The economy is clearly, if slowly, improving across the country and that is reflected here in Harborough as I have seen when visiting local businesses. We have a long way to go but I am happy to say that employment prospects in my constituency look good. I hope to see the good news maintained.”
