NEWS SPECIAL: Read full list of A-level results here

PUPILS and staff in the Harborough district are celebrating today (Thursday, Aug 20) after achieving excellent A-level results.

The two main colleges in the district - Robert Smyth School in Harborough and Lutterworth College - are both pleased with their sets of results.

The pass rate at Robert Smyth School (97 per cent) was the highest in the school's history and Lutterworth College has maintained its "very high standards".

See below for the lists of results.

Robert Smyth School's official statement is below:

A-level results at Robert Smyth are outstanding again this year, with the overall pass rate increasing to 97 per cent, the highest ever achieved by students at the school. The average points score per entry is also up representing an increase in performance across the school.

The number of passes at grade A has also shown a significant increase, with 19 per cent of students achieving this top grade, seven percentage points up on last year. The percentage of students achieving grades A and B is even more impressive, rising from 34 per cent last year to 41 per cent this year.

There were, as usual, many outstanding individual achievements but particular congratulations go to the following for achieving straight As: Kerry Arrowsmith, Nathan McCusker, Vahri Mitchell, Dominique Riddell, Kelly Robinson, Sophie Taylor, Kyle Lomer, Amelia Broadley-Sanders, Josh Dale, Katie Hill, Robert Parker, James Pulham and Nedal Remahi.

AS results were slightly up again on last year, with students gaining some excellent individual results.

Head teacher Colin Dean said: "We are delighted with this set of results, which are testament to a lot of hard work over the past two years.

"My warmest congratulations to the students for this impressive achievement and my sincere thanks to their teachers and to their parents for the support they have given them throughout their studies."

Lutterworth College's official release:

Eddie de Middelaer, principal of Lutterworth College, said: "Congratulations are due to students and staff on an excellent set of results. They are a product of a great deal of hard work and all should be proud of their achievements.

"We also must remember that, nationally, sixth forms have around 250 students, whereas in Leicestershire they are much larger - here at Lutterworth we have around 750. So the preparation, teaching, mentoring and other activities staff do here with students really does pay off.

"Also, we're really fortunate to have so many hard-working students with excellent attitudes to study and learning. We must remember too the work of our local high schools and primary schools in providing an excellent start to our students' education.

"Our figures show our pass improvements against every performance measure. Our average points score per student was 776 and average points score per entry was 204. Our pass rate was around 97 per cent, and we are an inclusive college so have an open entry policy, and we do not restrict entry to any student who wishes to take examinations.

"We are really pleased that our trends show we are maintaining our very high standards at A-level.

"Most pleasing of course is seeing so many students gain the access to the higher education courses they have applied for. There were many outstanding performances. The highest total point scores of over 1,200 points (an A is worth 270 points) were amassed by: Charlotte Perks of Enderby; Laura Heath of Lutterworth;

James Manley of Narborough; David McGrath of Lutterworth; Thomas Nutt of Gilmorton; Callum Boocock of Cosby; Aimee Cliff of Lutterworth; Matthew Smith of Gilmorton; Charlotte Tuffen of Lutterworth; Ben Fojut of Narborough; and Katy Mitchell of Claybrooke Magna.

"Our post-16 students take a variety of exams and I am happy to report that our vocational courses led to many excellent results including Btec Performing Arts students who all achieved top grades."
