Finalists at last year's Pride in Harborough awards.

The Mail has launched the 2013 Pride in Harborough Awards to honour people acorss the Lutterworth and Harborough areas.

With support from local businesses we will be holding a presentation evening in April at which the winners will be announced.

There are 10 categories in which to nominate people: Young Achiever, Raising the Profile of the Town, Inspire a Generation, Fundraiser of the Year, Service with a Smile, Excellence in Education, Friendly Neighbour, Care in the Community, Outstanding Example of Bravery and Unsung Hero/Heroine.

This year has already seen a number of nominations from people wanting to give recognition to a special someone.

Jean Foster is nominating Barbara Masters for the Friendly Neighbour category and said: “Barbara helps everyone, looking after people who are ill, seeing if elder neighbours need any help, shopping collecting prescriptions. Barbara is in fact 80 this year.”

Last year the Kilworth Challenge team were winners in both the Fundraiser of the Year category, as well as the top prize chosen by main sponsors the Market Harborough Building Society, which is supporting the event again.

Nick Otter, of the Kilworth Challenge organising committee, said it was a great evening.

He said: “Winning ‘the best of the best’ was absolutely tremendous and a real surprise and honour for us.”

See this week’s Mail for further details of how to nominate or visit the Pride in Harborough 2013 website

A panel of local judges will select the winners, who will receive their awards at a presentation evening at the Three Swans Hotel in Harborough.
