People are being urged to get behind this year’s Sport Relief events in Harborough to raise money for charity and get fit at the same time.

Sport Relief, which takes happens every two years, is taking place in the district on Sunday, March 23, and there will be plenty of activities and events to get involved with in the Harborough area.

People can participate in one, three and six-mile runs which all get set off from the cafe in Welland Park, Harborough at 10.30am.

There will also be games in the park beforehand to get people ready to run.

The event is the sporting brother of Comic Relief and raises money to help disadvantaged people in the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.

This year will be the fifth time that a big event like this has been held in Harborough.

In 2012 about 450 people took part in the Sport Relief event in Harborough alone.

This year, as before, there will also be events in other locations across the district.

In Fleckney there will be a three and six-mile runs starting from Fleckney Sports Centre in Leicester Road. The event will get started at 9am.

Broughton Astley will be holding its second Sport Relief event with three and six-mile runs from 1.30pm.

They will take place at the Frolesworth Recreation Ground in the village.

For those who don’t fancy a run or a walk in the park, this year for the first time people will have a chance to participate in a Swimathon instead.

They can tackle distances of 1.5km, 2.5km and 5km for the charity.

They will take place at Harborough Leisure Centre and Lutterworth Sports Centre between Friday, March 21, and Sunday, March 23.

Times to take part will be confirmed once registration with Sport Relief has been received.

The events give people the chance to do something sporty for charity and in the past the district has raised thousands of pounds for the cause.
