Ladies and gentlemen, what you’re looking at on the right is the best body in Europe.
And you may well see it – with more clothes on, obviously – strolling around town, because it belongs to 41-year-old Harborough-based bodybuilder Perry Crick.
Mr Crick is just back from Sapri in Italy, having been crowned the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Association’s Mr Europe.
He said: “I’d been out of competitions for three years, and had to come out of the starting blocks very late for this competition.
“But it’s ended up being the pinnacle of my career so far.”
Mr Crick is no novice when it comes to bodybuilding – in fact he’s a three-times British champion.
But after a late decision to get back into competitions, he took just six weeks of training – half the normal amount – to qualify for this year’s Mr Britain. He finished sixth.
That made him eligible for the prestigious Mr Universe where, improving all the time, he got another sixth place.
And then it was Mr Europe, where – after 11 weeks of training – he got the gold.
His training included three gruelling workouts a day in the run-up to the competition. He spent the day before Mr Europe lying on his bed to conserve every bit of energy.
Perry said: “The contest took place on a stage overlooking the sea – it was phenomenal.
“And the number of people who wanted to take my picture afterwards was unbelievable. They queued for an hour.”
His advice for anyone wanting to follow in his footsteps? “Three words – consistency, dedication and desire.”
