Police name motorcyclist who died in A5 crash

Police have released the name of a motorcyclist who died in a crash on the A5 near Claybrooke Magna on Monday morning.

He was 60-year-old Robert Paul Wilson of Burbage in Leicestershire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision was reported at 7.42am on Monday on the A5 close to the junction with Highcross Road near Claybrooke Magna and involved a white lorry with Slovakian number plates and a silver BMW motorbike.

The lorry driver was not injured.

An inquest into Mr Wilson’s death was opened and adjourned by the Leicester coroner’s office yesterday (Thursday). The next hearing is scheduled for July 30.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the collision and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Det Con 0087 Nick Bryan, the investigating officer, said; “The lorry was travelling northbound whilst the motorcycle was travelling southbound in the opposite direction.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand is asked to contact the police on our 101 number if they haven’t already.”
