It’s nail-biting time for Gartree Prison officer Sam Bailey tonight (Saturday) as she prepares for the final of the X Factor.
She is on the brink of fame and glory – but she needs your help to make her dream become a reality.
She might be one of the biggest favourites in the show’s history but her victory is by no means assured.
The live vote for the show has thrown up some surprises in the past, and Sam’s supporters are concerned that complacency might lead to people not picking up the phone to vote this weekend.
The 36-year-old is up against fellow finalists Luke Friend and Scottish teen Nicholas McDonald, who are likely to gather strong backing from the younger generations, with Leon Jackson’s victory in the 2007 series showing how strong the support north of the border can be.
There has been quite a bit of chatter on social media websites speculating that the whole of Scotland will be coming out to support Nicholas.
Sam’s husband Craig spoke to the Mail this week and urged people to guard against complacency.
The message is simple. If we want Sam to emulate Harborough’s other television star Frances Quinn, who was crowned Great British Bake Off winner in October, then readers need to make sure they vote.
Mum-of-two Sam progressed through to the finals last weekend with two great performances which saw her showcase her versatility.
She sang Beyonce’s If I Were A Boy and Elton John’s Candle in the Wind, which earned further plaudits from the judges.
How the voting will work:
Voting will start after all three acts have sung for the first time tonight.
The public will be voting for their chosen winner when the phone lines open. The finalists will be singing twice on Saturday night.
They will sing one new song and one duet. One act will leave at the end of Saturday’s show.
Nicole Scherzinger will be Sam’s duet partner.
The two remaining finalists will then perform the winner’s single and also their favourite song of the series on Sunday before the winner is announced.
The X Factor producers are putting on a big-name line up for the finals weekend. Confirmed acts are Sir Elton John, Katy Perry, The Killers, One Direction, Tom Odell and Gary Barlow with other surprise guests expected to feature.
The show has posted a few videos on their website today.
