People in Lutterworth are being reminded of alternative locations for minor injuries care while the unit at the Feilding Palmer Hospital is closed due to staffing problems.
The unit has been closed since April while a review into minor injuries care is carried out by East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group (ELR CCG).
In the meantime, anyone requiring treatment for a minor injury can go to their GP surgery during normal opening hours or visit the Minor Injury Unit, in Coventry Road, Harborough, LE16 9DD, which is open from 9am to 9pm every day.
Alternatively attend Rugby Urgent Care Centre, at the Hospital of St Cross site, Barby Road, Rugby, CV22 5PX, which is open 24 hours a day.
The service at Lutterworth Minor Injury Unit used to be provided by staff working on the hospital ward, who also have minor injury experience.
The ELR CCG says the temporary closure is necessary due to difficulty in staffing the service with appropriately qualified and experienced staff and the potential impact on quality of care for frail older people on the hospital ward.
Tim Sacks, ELR CCG’s chief operating officer, said: “We have been reviewing minor injury services across East Leicestershire and Rutland to ensure our patients are getting the best quality services.
“This has included looking at demand, quality of services, opening hours and locations. We sought initial public views on minor injury services in our area last year and have been developing options for the future provision of these services.
“We will be talking with local people again in the near future about those options and no decisions will be made until we have taken public views into account.”
