Gartree Prison officer Sam Bailey made it to the live finals of this year’s X Factor - and told presenter Dermot O’Leary she was going to celebrate with a cup of tea.
The mum-of-two impressed Sharon Osbourne and guest judge Robbie Williams with a performance of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’ on Saturday’s programme, filmed at Sharon’s LA mansion.
Robbie had cast some doubt on her future on the show, saying he did not know where she would ‘fit in’.
But Sharon told the 36-year-old, who has worked at the prison for the last three years, that she would be going through to the live finals starting next week.
An emotional Sam told Dermot afterwards that she would celebrate with a cup of tea.
Sam has worked on cruise ships in the past but in recent years she has devoted herself to family and job, and now wants to pursue her dream.
She said: “I feel so lucky to be chosen for the live shows as there is so much talent this year. I didn’t think I would make it this far at all. I am excited about the impact of my new style on the audience. I can’t wait to show them more of my voice and what I can do. I’m not just a ballad singer, I’m somebody that can sing any style - even opera.”
Shelley Smith and Lorna Simpson were the other two to make it in the over 25s category.
