Strong interest in new town retirement flats

Nearly half the apartments at a new retirement complex in Harborough town centre have already been reserved.

Churchill Retirement Living says 40 per cent of the spots at Maxwell Lodge in Northampton Road have already been earmarked.

Work on the building on the site of the former Ritz cinema and KwikSave has been progressing for months and a new Welcome Centre on the site was opened at the end of March to enable interested buyers to visit and view the plans.

Maxwell Lodge will consist of 51 self-contained, one and two-bedroom apartments designed for the needs of retired owners.

The apartments are sold with a lease containing an age restriction.

The complex is named after John Maxwell, the founder of ABC cinemas, of which The Ritz Cinema was once part.

Maxwell Lodge sales consultant Louise Nicholls said: “The Churchill Retirement lifestyle is one that is increasingly finding favour with those of 60-plus who want to carry on living a fulfilling and independent life with extra security and support.

“Maxwell Lodge will offer owners the opportunity to live independently in a beautifully appointed, easy to maintain apartment of their own but with the opportunity to take advantage of shared communal activities and join in social activities when they wish.”

The new show complex is open daily from 10am to 5pm.
