From Frances Quinn wielding a whisk and Sam Bailey belting out ballads, the district is awash with televised talent, and now two more have made the district proud by reaching the finals of high-profile reality TV talent contests.

Sally Barker, of Lutterworth, is through to the final of The Voice while Heather Jacks, of Willoughby Waterleys, has qualified for the finale of The Great British Sewing Bee.

Sally once again received fantastic feedback from the celebrity coaches during The Voice live shows last weekend.

The 54-year-old mother-of-two performed a fantastic rendition of Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys and then got to perform a duet with her mentor, the legendary Welsh singer Sir Tom Jones.

She topped the public vote and will now sing in the final which will be shown on BBC1 from 7pm on Saturday evening.

Sally handled the performance with Sir Tom with confidence and was full of praise for fellow semi-finalist Bizzi Dixon of Leicester, who she called on the audience to support after he lost the public vote.

Sally’s friend Gayle White organised a good luck party at Gayle’s home in Barnards Way, Lutterworth, on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday night’s episode of The Great British Sewing Bee on BBC2, Heather impressed in the first two tasks where she took second place for her gathered front dress and the application of sleeves to a high street garment.

Speaking about the first task, Heather said: “It was a bit like a leg wax, painful and your glad that it is over.”

The judges criticised her dress in the third task, which she based on a plain shift dress she wore for an art exhibition when she was painting in Sweden.

Heather, though had done enough to make it through to the final of the programme and it was her fellow contestant Linda who lost out on a place in the final.

The concluding episode will be broadcast on BBC2 at 8pm next Tuesday.
