Large crowds flocked to see the wide variety of events at the district’s largest agricultural show – including TV presenter Johnny Ball.

Organisers of the 57th annual event, at the showground in Blaston Road, Slawston, attracted an estimated crowd of 2,000 people.

The modern farming section included a visit by the NFU’s Let’s Talk Farming Roadshow where TV personality Johnny Ball encouraged visitors to try milking Annabelle the model cow.

There were a variety of trade stands and familiar attractions with record entries in many sections including classic cars and tractors, horse and pony showing, livestock classes, dog showing, modern farm machinery displays, sheep shearing and rural crafts.

New attractions included a side-saddle display, dancing diggers, a sheep dog demo and small poultry showing.

Show chairman John Stones said: “We are all thrilled with how the day went and are now calculating exactly how much we have made for our chosen charities, with proceeds set to go to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and several other local charities.

“It was great to hear how much people enjoyed the event.

“The success of the show is a tribute to the support of so many local people, including sponsorship from many district businesses and community groups giving their time for free, helping to create such a successful day.

“We are indebted for the support we have received from the Harborough 2012 Lions Club, Welland Valley Rotary Club, Medbourne Cricket Club and young farmers’ clubs.”

The date for next year’s show has already been confirmed as being Sunday, July 28, 2015.
