A thief wearing red suede shoes and designer clothes stole a mobile phone from a shop counter in Husbands Bosworth.
The man visited Alice ‘n’ May in High Street at about 2.30pm on Friday and swiped the iPhone before escaping by jumping into a moving car which then sped off.
Shop owner Alison Handford told the Mail: “This man came in the shop looking very convincing. He was very well dressed, in designer gear I’d say. He asked in broken English if I sold any men’s clothes. I told him I didn’t but I showed him where the clothes were.
“As he walked past he put his hand on my counter when there was no reason for him to do so. I looked but nothing seemed to have gone.
“As he was leaving I spied a vehicle across the road that seemed to be moving back and forth. As soon as he opened the door it drove off toward Lutterworth and this chap leapt into it as it was moving off.”
Mrs Handford reported the incident to police and it was recorded as a suspicious incident.
However a couple of hours later she realised her phone was gone and it is now recorded as a theft.
Mrs Handford described the get-away vehicle as a left-hand drive maroon people carrier with a foreign number plate beginning TX.
She said the man was wearing red suede shoes and smart, designer clothes. He is believed to be of Eastern European origin.
He was about 6ft 3ins tall with dark hair, shaved at the sides and cropped short on top, she added.
