A tree was ripped from the ground - roots and all - in a Harborough street in the high winds.

It was uprooted in Welland Park Road sometime yesterday (Wednesday) and was left lying across the pavement.

A picture of the tree was sent to the Mail by reader Michael Whelan.

The Welland Park Road resident said: “I didn’t see the tree fall but I saw the aftermath.

“It was quite a large tree so it shows just how ferocious the wind must have been - it had been completely uprooted.

“I suppose it’s fortunate it didn’t fall in the opposite direction and onto the road. If anyone had been walking past at the time I’m sure they would have been hurt.”
