Three determined women have joined together to take on the London Marathon to raise funds for The Squires Effect charity.

Sharon Foxon, Leanne Marshall and Beverley Felton have all been training hard for the marathon, which they are running in memory of their friend Claire Squires

Claire, of North Kilworth, collapsed less than a mile from the finish line of the marathon two years ago and later died in hospital. The Squires Effect charity was set up in her name.

Beverley said: “Both Sharon and I are so pleased to be running in this year’s marathon for The Squires Effect as we were Claire’s friends and are so proud to be doing it for her charity.”

The charity’s vision is to help as many other good-causes to achieve their goals as possible. This year it is supporting the Leicester-based Laura Centre, a specialist bereavement organisation, and the Bamboozle Theatre charity which helps children with learning difficulties through the medium of theatre.

It has also backed Hope Against Cancer, Cardiac Risk in the Young, the Rainbows Children’s Hospice and Add Action.

Beverley had applied for a place in the marathon via the public ballot for the past five years but without success.

So she is delighted to finally get the opportunity to run it at last, and for such a deserving cause.

Leanne competed in the event last year in aid of The Squires Effect and will be supporting it again this time round but sharing the funds with Cancer Research UK.

Beverley added: “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that has trained with us and sponsored us so far. We really appreciate it.”
