Wilkinson celebrated its 20th anniversary in Market Harborough with a party in the store last weekend.

Staff welcomed customers into the store, in St Mary’s Place shopping centre, to join in the fun, where there was free face-painting, children’s crafts and plenty of birthday cake for people to enjoy.

The event also marked a milestone for store manager Sue Waterfield who was also celebrating 20 years of service at the Harborough store.

She first joined the company as an evening merchandiser working three hours a week and has been the store manager for the past eight-and-a-half years.

Sue said: “The town has expanded greatly over the last 20 years and has a brilliant retail offer for local residents.

“I am delighted Wilkinson has played such a key role in the town’s development so far and we look forward to many more years in Market Harborough.

“I’d like to say thank you to all of our loyal customers who have shopped with us over the years and to the team whose commitment to the company is a real reflection of Wilko’s family values.

“The event was great fun and we certainly celebrated the store’s 20th anniversary in style.”

A family-owned firm for more than 80 year, JK Wilkinson opened its first store in Charnwood Street, Leicester, in 1930.

The company’s portfolio has expanded significantly over the decades and there are now 374 shops across the UK.
