Housing association Spire Homes has started work on a new £1.3million affordable housing development off Lathkill Street in Harborough.

It will provide 14 two and three-bed homes available for
intermediate rent and shared ownership and is one of two sites in town representing a £5.7m investment to bring over 50 affordable homes to Harborough.

The association’s chairman John Farrar turned the first soil at the site with Harborough District Council chairman Cllr Geraldine Robinson, watched by representatives from the association, district council, Longhurst Group, Miller Homes and Abode LLP.

Spire Homes began developing its first homes in the Harborough area in December off Farndon Road, a £4.4m scheme of 45 affordable homes which will be completed by 2016.

Cllr Robinson said: “Meeting local needs for affordable housing is a top priority for the council and we are very pleased to be working with Spire Homes.”
