A Mowsley music teacher is taking his debut children's novel on tour after a series of successful readings at a local school trust.

Andrew Ashwin's adventure story, Drumendus: Mission to the Drum Planet, is inspired by all things music and sound and follows two best friends on an exciting space mission to the mysterious planet, Drumendus.

After leading interactive sessions at Leicester Grammar Junior School and LGS Stoneygate, he is now booked in to visit more schools and present his book, with a musical twist guaranteed every time.

Andrew, a passionate advocate for music education, said: "I wanted to write a children’s adventure novel with music and sound running through it as central themes.

"I hope to encourage readers to explore music further in their lives, perhaps joining a music group or even taking up an instrument or singing.”

Andrew says the book is aimed at children aged eight to 12. He added: "I would love to visit more schools here in Leicestershire, to read the book, share ideas with pupils and lead some music-making. I'm sure they would have a blast!"

The book costs £7.99. Visit www.bookguild.co.uk/bookshop/book/449/drumendus to find out more about buying a copy, or www.drumendus.com to contact Andrew.
