Council Offices: Market Harborough: Harborough District Council Offices now being refurbished Wednesday 16th January 2013

Concept drawings for the library and museum facility planned for Harborough Council’s new-look headquarters are to be released.

They will be available to view online at www.leics.gov.uk/harboroughmuseum from 5pm on Friday or at the council’s temporary base at Millers House, in Roman Way, from Saturday.

The drawings show how the museum and library could look when the refurbished building in Adam and Eve Street re-opens in 2014.

At present, the building is being redeveloped into a learning and heritage hub which will house the refurbished library, museum, and Harborough District Council offices, as well as shops and businesses.

The project is being funded through a loan from the Market Harborough and the Bowden’s Charity, as well as financial support from Harborough District Council and Leicestershire County Council.

Council leader Mike Rook said: “This is going to be a fabulous community resource for people of all ages. So take a look at the initial plans and let us know what you think. The plans exceed all my expectations looking back at the beginning of this journey.”

Dave Houseman, lead member for adults and communities at the county council, said: “This is an exciting project and we have the chance to do something really special with the building.

“We want people to come into the new space and feel inspired to read, to learn and to be proud of their heritage. I hope people will take the opportunity to look at the plans and tell us what they think is most important for the new facility.”

Harborough Museum is administered in partnership by Leicestershire County Council, Harborough District Council and the Market Harborough Historical Society, and first opened to the public in 1983.

The museum is currently closed for the refurbishment.

Market Harborough Library moved from The Square to the present district council offices in 1982.

The library has temporarily relocated to Miller’s House on the corner of Roman Way and Adam and Eve Street. For more information visit www.leics.gov.uk/marketharboroughlibrary or phone 0116 305 3627
