PRIDE IN HARBOROUGH: People to be proud of

THERE are so many selfless heroes and heroines in our community who get very little public thanks for the tremendous work they do.

The Mail has launched its second-annual awards event to recognise the people across the whole of Harborough district who we can all be proud of for the work they do.

Thanks to support from town businesses, especially the event's main sponsor the Market Harborough Building Society, we will be holding a presentation evening on Thursday, March 25, where the winners of our awards will be announced.

We have identified 11 categories in which we feel people deserve a public pat on the back for what they do.

There are categories for people who are simply great neighbours, or who help young people to fulfil their potential.

We want to know about those who do tremendous care work in the community, and those who find ways to fundraise for charity or other good causes.

Plus there are several other categories (see below).

Over the next few weeks we are asking our readers either to nominate themselves or people they know for one, or more, of the categories.

Please take a look at the list of categories and see if anybody springs to mind.

Then - and this is the important bit - spare a few minutes to nominate them for the Pride of Harborough awards.

We will feature some of the entries in the Mail during the next few weeks and then the judges will select the winners.

These people will be invited to an awards presentation evening on Thursday, March 25, at the Three Swans Hotel in Harborough.

After a drinks reception and three-course meal, the winners will be announced and presented with their awards.

So please, show that we are proud of the people who make a positive difference to the world we live in by nominating them for an award.

To nominate someone for an award, fill in the Pride of Harborough coupon which will be featured in the Mil every week until March.

The categories are:

* Raising the profile of your town

* Our young achievers

* Excellent public service

* People who help young people fulfil their potential

* Hard work and determination

* Friendly neighbour

* Outstanding bravery

* Fundraiser of the year

* Caring in the community

* Unsung hero of the year

Sponsors are also being sought for some of the awards. For more information, email brian.dodds@harboroughmail.co.uk
