A CAMPAIGN by the Mail to raise funds for the upkeep of war memorials in the district is gaining momentum.
Last week the Mail launched a campaign to raise funds to help with the repair and maintenance of war memorials in the Harborough and Lutterworth areas.
We hope that, with your support, we will also be able to raise enough money to help the Royal British Legion to commemorate the anniversary of the beginning of the First World War in 2014 in our district.
The campaign was launched with the support of the Royal British Legion, Harborough District Council and Market Harborough Building Society.
The building society donated £100 to help kick-start the campaign.
Mark Robinson, chief executive of the society, said: “War memorials are such a focal point for communities and it is really important that they are kept in a good condition in order to honour those who have fallen during war.”
Already we have had donations from people who have come into our office to show their support.
To make it even easier for you to donate, we have placed a collection tin in the Mail’s office in Northampton Road, Harborough. The office is open from 9am until 5pm on weekdays.
Another way to help support the campaign is by choosing the cause if you are planning a fundraising event.
Staff at the Mail have been coming up with ideas for various fundraisers we could organise to boost funds.
People wanting to donate can contribute to our campaign by paying in cash or cheques, made payable to Harborough Mail/ Harborough War Memorial Fund, over the counter at any branch of Market Harborough Building Society.
