CHAMPIONS: penalty kings clinch crown

AN incredibly close under-11s Leicestershire County Cup final came down in Harborough Town's favour after a thrilling penalty shoot-out.

Harborough Town Juniors u11s 1 Sileby Juniors 1

(6-5 after penalties)

The match was played at the County FA headquarters, Holmes Park at Whetstone on a full-size pitch under floodlights, which was a new experience for both teams.

Sileby started well, dominating play with some creative, attacking moves and after 20 minutes they got their reward when a speculative shot looped over goalie George Lawton.

Harborough responded well and within five minutes their first attack brought the equaliser, Elliott Coe slotting the ball through for Ross Barnett to score from close range.

The rest of normal time saw some pulsating play, with both teams working hard, cheered on by a large crowd of supporters.

After ten minutes of extra-time nothing separated the teams, and ten boys and the keepers stepped forward for the penalty shoot-out decider. Sileby's first shot was put over the bar, giving Harborough an instant advantage. Their own penalty takers Ross Barnett, Elliott Coe, Tom Shellard and Charlie Upfold all made sure of their goals, as did the next four Sileby takers. It was down to Matt Brown to score to seal the victory and his shot hit the underside of the bar and bounced over the goal-line, sparking joyous celebrations.

The squad of Tashan Jaiyeola, Cameron Jones, Elliott Coe, Isaac Akers, Tom Shellard, Josh Bott, Charlie Upfold, Sam Ward, Matti Ward, Asher Winter, James Mister, George Lawton, Ross Barnett and Matthew Brown all contributed to a top team effort and a deserved victory.
