Lowe provides the high points for over-achievers Rascals

RISING to the challenge of proving themselves against higher league opponents, Harborough Town’s under-9 Rascals swept to a 4-1 win at the expense of Lutterworth Athletic Blizzard.

George Lowe capped an excellent debut with a goal and George Kenyon, John Tughan and Ollie Stevenson also netted for Town.

The Harborough players passed the ball fluently throughout but John Green was outstanding running with the ball on the left.

Whetstone Juniors 2 Harborough u13s (9v9) 5

A WINNING streak in 2012 continued for Harborough under-13s (9v9) but they had to come from being two down in this league cup clash.

Man of the match Zac Cooper got a goal back just before half-time and this acted as the catalyst for an outstanding second half display.

After the break, goals from Cooper, Luke Flynn, Tom Leonard and Josh Plant made the game safe.

Skipper Tom Collier, Ethan Verrall and Oliver Manz produced highly skilled and tireless work throughout.

Harborough u10s Rockers 2 Wigston Utd Warriors 0

WARRIORS dominated the first half with Rockers needing some quality defending to keep them out.

The second half saw Rockers fielding their more usual line-up and this appeared to add confidence.

The Harborough side took the lead when a Harry Marshall through-ball was taken on by Seth Vials and powered into the top right corner of the net.

Warriors came close to equalising from a free-kick, which was brilliantly tipped over by Dom Williams, but at the other end man of the match Vials calmly flicked home a second goal to secure victory for Rockers.

Quorn 4 Harborough 94 u14s 4

TOWN 94 under-14s executed a stunning comeback to take a point away from home.

The worst possible start was made by conceding in the opening attack but from then on an even first half ensued with Chris Arkwright and Paul Colclough feeding the Town strikers plenty of balls.

Dominic Pyne headed a deserved equaliser midway through the first half despite being almost the smallest player on the pitch. Quorn then struck two more good goals to take a handy lead at half-time, which was added to soon after the break as Town began to flounder.

Luckily Cory Swanell knew how to handle the situation by steadying the ship with Harborough’s second goal.

After that Quorn self-destructed and the game was all Harborough. A Quorn attack was broken down by Ben Morris in his own penalty area and making a stunning run with the ball from one end to another his shot nutmegged under the keeper to rapturous applause from the travelling fans.

Morgan Curran made another searching run and finished neatly with the equaliser with only seconds remaining, and a stunning comeback was complete for a well-deserved point.

Harborough u15s 0 Stoneygate 1

HARBOROUGH under-15s saw Stoneygate steal the points in a tight and well-contested game in which a draw seemed the most likely and fairest result.

Both teams played attractive flowing football with the midfields on both sides passing fluently to instigate numerous attacks, only for fine defensive play combined with outstanding goalkeeping keeping the score to 0-0 at half-time.

The second half continued to produce good entertainment as both teams kept up the high standard of play.

The only goal came midway through the half when the ball deflected to a visiting forward and he neatly fired home.

Harborough continued to play well and had their chances to equalise but it was not to be and they ran out unlucky losers

Carib 1 Harborough u10s Rhinos 0

A CLOSE match could have gone either way but unfortunately for Rhinos their hosts ended up taking all three points.

Rhinos put together some superb passing moves during the first half but the finishing touch was just missing. Carib also had some opportunities to opening the scoring early on but their shooting was also off-target.

Carib scored their goal direct from a free-kick, which the Rhinos keeper could do nothing about.

Max Shortland worked tirelessly in the Rhinos midfield and picked up their man of the match award.

Harborough 94 u18s 0 Countesthorpe Athletic 3

A PROMISING start from Harborough 94 under-18s saw Nathan Harris attack strongly on the wing, a James Blackwell header go just over the bar, and a shot cleared off the line.

But the strong start fizzled out as Countesthorpe took the lead and quickly gained momentum to finish the first half 3-0 up, despite good defending from Luke Marston and Grant Roberts.

Oli Magee and Ben Winter came close for Town after the break.

Asfordby Amateurs Girls 2 Harborough u12 Girls 0

A MATCH played in good spirits ended in defeat for Town’s under-12 girls despite a valiant effort.

Ollie Crossley and Georgina Ball made impressive progress in their attack with Grace Coe and Ella Soysa equally solid at the back.

Asfordby took the lead with some excellent play from back to front.

Harborough matched them for effort as Leah Gent and Eden Coe replaced tired team-mates.

In the second half player of the match Charlotte Dexter pressured Asfordby with some superb play and several good shots. Gent also saw a good shot go narrowly wide.

Asfordby’s second goal was a carbon copy of the first, but Town never gave up with Crossley again keeping the team in contention with some energetic runs.

Loughborough Dynamo 7 Harborough u11 Saints 3

SAINTS’ lack of recent match practice contributed much to this away defeat to a talented outfit.

Dynamo opened the scoring after keeper Sam Harrison saved a penalty, only to see the rebound converted.

Saints responded well for a while, putting pressure on the home team. Luke McLuckie shot wide and Matthew McCormick had a shot saved as the side worked hard to get back into the game. In defence, player of the month Ravi Rastogi put in some good clearances and Harrison made a couple of good saves. However, four more strikes in the first half enabled Dynamo to have a commanding 5-0 lead at the interval.

Saints came out superbly in the second period, scoring two quick goals, both through McCormick and suddenly an unlikely comeback seemed possible as the Harborough team improved their game and gained in confidence.

Jack Bellamy tried his luck from a long way out but his shot was saved and Sam Pepler had a header go wide from a corner.

Two further goals from Dynamo and a late consolation strike from McLuckie finished the scoring.

McCormick and McLuckie were voted joint Harborough man of the match.
