Foxes' legends visit Harborough Town FC
LEICESTER City FC legends Steve Walsh and Alan Birchenall regaled fans in Harborough with tales from their colourful careers at a fundraising night.
Walshie and The Golden Birch visited Harborough Town Football Club's Bowden's Park clubhouse earlier this monthmay for a talk and three-course meal in aid of club funds.
The club's new chairman Andy Winston said: "I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all that attended a great evening of wit and humour.
"The lively discussion from the two guest speakers was thoroughly enjoyed by all and the club hopes to arrange similar evenings in the future."
Defender and striker Walsh played 369 games for City between 1986 and 2000 where he forged a reputation for clutch performances and key goals.
Skilful attacking midfielder Birchenall played in the 1960s and 70s including 161 games for the Foxes between 1971-77. He is now the pre-match and half-time host at City's home games and in 2002 was awarded an MBE for his charity work.
About 110 members and guests attended the night including Harborough Rugby Club's vice-chairman Roy Saunders.
There was also a raffle and silent auction of the former City players' memorabilia. The amount of cash raised is still being calculated.
