Golf contest tees off
A YEAR-long charity golf championship has got off to a fantastic start with its first tournament.
The Adam'Smile Golf Championship teed off at Market Harborough Golf Club on Friday with the Adam Mugridge Memorial Stableford event.
After a tightly-fought contest that went to the wire with a strong field of 32 players, Steve Brown (handicap 16) emerged the victor with a solid performance.
Steve pipped runner-up Mark Turner (handicap 18) by just a single point and Carl Barton (handicap 14) finished third.
Mr Barton also won a meal for two at the Toro Latino restaurant, in Abbey Street, Harborough, after winning a nearest-the-pin contest on the par-three 17th hole.
Other winners were Les Watkins, who took the Duncan Murray Longest Drive prize, Neil Tulloch, who received the Di Vinci Nearest Pin on the 8th hole and Phil Cowley, who received the Bladerunner trophy plus a golf lesson as the best-placed 28 handicapper.
The tournament aims to raise 10,000 for the Adam'Smile campaign to build a safe cycle track between Harborough and Lubenham.
The next tournament will be on Tuesday, April 6, at Priors Hall, Corby.
