Hot-shot Nicki
HARBOROUGH surveyor Nicki Brocklesby successfully mapped her course to a gold medal at the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships.
Representing England at the championships held in Delhi, the 44-year-old contested both the women's Olympic Skeet pairs and individual events.
Along with team-mate Pinky Le Grelle, Brocklesby hit bullseye with gold in the pairs.
She said that standing on the podium afterwards, listening to the National Anthem, was a very proud moment for them.
A shot at a prestigious golden double was denied when Brocklesby was struck down with a bout of 'Delhi belly'. She managed to compete but confessed to not feeling much like shooting.
Brocklesby said she was surprised but pleased to make the final, although she was unable to improve her position of sixth place. She added she was more than happy with her performance in the circumstances.
The women's Olympic skeet events have been removed from the Commonwealth Games this year, so there will not be an opportunity for Brocklesby to return to Delhi to compete in the Games in October.
Her next goal is to maintain her place in the Great Britain team and to qualify for the forthcoming World Cups and World and European Championships, and at the same time improve her ranking in the team.
Brocklesby, from Badby in Northamptonshire, took up Olympic skeet – one of the three Olympic clay target shooting disciplines – about six years ago. She has worked for King West for five years as a rural surveyor.
She qualified to shoot for Britain for the first time last April.
