Tee-off for major golf championship

GOLFERS will be taking to the fairways of Harborough on Friday (March 14) for the first tournament of the year-long Adam'Smile charity golf championship.

The championship was officially launched last month and organisers hope it will raise 10,000 for the Adam'Smile appeal.

The appeal's aim is to build a safe cycle route between Lubenham and Harborough in memory of Adam Mugridge (13) who died while cycling to school in 2006.

The ten-tournament championship runs until December and includes some of the areas finest courses such as Kilworth Springs, Kibworth, Cold Ashby and Ullesthorpe.

The first - called the Adam Mugridge Memorial - is taking place at Harborough Golf Club in Great Oxendon Road.

The championship has been organised by Mark Cowley, of Lubenham, who was inspired to fundraise for Adam'Smile as he works with Adam's uncle Paul Johnson at Gartree Prison.

The Adam'Smile fund has now topped 60,000. Adam's dad Dave, mum Kate and sister Lucie hope that by building the cycle track it will create a facility for leisure use and for children to get to school safely which will be a lasting tribute to Adam.

The golf championship costs 30 to register and then 30 per tournament. There will be a cumulative score for the whole championship with participants' best seven finishes counting towards the Order of Merit.

For more details, phone Mr Cowley on 01858 419124 or email mark@adamsmilegolf.co.uk.
