Town mayor Rob Coleman took to the stage to switch on the lights with a few invited guests, including Leicestershire County Council vice chairman Rosita Page, Harborough District Council vice chairman Geraldine Robinson and his consort Val Ridley.
Mr Coleman thanked the crowds for making the event as big a success as in previous years.
The switch-on, which featured the all-new lights supplied this year, was followed by a fireworks display.
Although there had been some fog earlier in the evening, this had cleared by the time people began taking to the streets.
Before the switch-on, Lutterworth singer Kate Read entertained the crowds with a number of songs and told the crowd about the work she is doing with US singer Will.I.Am and about her forthcoming EP.
The road closure through the centre of Lutterworth was greeted with enthusiasm by revellers, who were able to walk freely between the town hall square and Church Street without any bottlenecks on the High Street crossing.
